Reading Response Instructions


Directions:
  • When you write your entries, make sure you do your best work and share your best thinking.
  • Each entry should explain your thoughts completely with details from the book and/or real life to support your thinking.
  • Use the sticky notes you placed in your book while you were reading to help you.
  • Begin each entry by writing the date and title and author of your book.
  • Please try to write about a different topic each week.
  • START EACH ENTRY BY STATING YOUR TOPIC!!!!!!


Below you will find a list of possible journal topics:

· Tell about something you found interesting or exciting. Explain what it was and why it was interesting.

· How did the author make you feel while you were reading? Explain how you felt and what it was that made you feel that way.

· Explain what lesson the author is trying to teach with their writing. What are they trying to get you to understand about the world around you, people and how to treat them, or what is right or wrong. This is their message. Explain how you feel about that lesson/message and why you feel that way.

· Explain connections you can make between your book and your own life. Tell what happened in the book spark your connection and what happened in your own life that is similar.

· Explain connections you can make between your book and another book you have read or a movie you have seen. Tell what happened in the book spark your connection and what happened in the other book or movie that is similar.

· Tell how your book is different from other books by this author or other books in this genre. Tell which book you are comparing your book to and how it is different.

· Make a prediction about what will happen next in your book. Explain what you will think will happen next and what details from your book so far helped you to make that prediction.

· Explain some interesting or important things that you want to remember about your book. Tell why you feel they need to be remembered.

· Describe some places in the book where the author gives great descriptions. Tell what they were describing and what words they used that helped you visualize the scene.

· Write a reaction to a character or characters in your book. Explain how you feel about them and why you feel that way.

· Tell about something you learned from your book that you didn’t know before.

Don't forget...You must ALWAYS use details from the book to support your thinking!!!
